The Art of Practice: 5 Day Yoga Intensive with Sama Fabian and Tanya Syed

10-15 June 2008 Clare Island

‘We are not a fixed form, but a process in formation’ SF

View from Shala

The retreat facilitates a creative dialogue between breath, body and voice to bring about an experience of wholeness. In practicing from habit, assumption or memory we create resistances and restrictions in one or several layers of our being. We are not a fixed form, but a process 'in formation' , and the possibilities for transformation are available at every moment, as Yoga is a state of freedom through unified consciousness.

In this integrated practice we seek to increase our sensitivity to a broader and finer perceptual field, expanding our enquiry through visualisation, pranayama and sacred sound. The practice is grounded in comprehensive asana, bandha and mudra work and philosophy is woven into the teaching as a sustaining continuum.

This course is open to all practitioners of any style of Yoga, meditation and/or chanting.

Yoga Intensive - Auroville, India

20 Dec 2006 to 5 Jan 2007

A two-week intensive addressed to practitioners of any style of Yoga who wish to deepen their understanding of the transformational power of Yoga and how this transformation can be implemented through an intelligent and integrated practice.

This year we return to Auroville with a sharp awareness of our experience in 2004/05 when we were engulfed in the profoundly destabilising experience of the Tsunami. Our practice offered a solid anchoring and each was able to respond according to their nature and consciousness.

It is in everyday living that we can assess where we really are, in our responses to life's challenging situations, in the quality of our relationships and the consistency of our actions.

Auroville offers a perfect set up for conducting a thorough self-exploration. This is an experimental town where each individual has made a choice to embody Yoga consciousness. Many attempt to live a clear and clean life, some live an impeccable life, a few dwell in the consciousness of the Seers. Yet none comes forward with a manufactured, easy answer. It is up to each individual to find their way, their direct connection with the forces that shape a human life and destiny.

In this context and particularly conducive environment we will return to weave a practice in resonance with our personal needs and deeper aspirations.

This year my intention is to deepen our investigation of the nature of Prana and refine our perception of subtle energy fields, using the full spectrum of Yogic practices.

Open Teacher's and Teacher Trainees' Intensive - Devon

13-17 April 2006

"The key to mystical language and spiritual metaphor is not theology or cosmology but anatomy... Those who enter deeply into the spiritual dimension of experience soon discover that the cosmic design they expected to find in their inward path of ascent to the Devine is in fact simply the design of their own anatomical or psycho-physical structures. Indeed this is the secret divulged to initiates." Da Free John from 'The Enlightenment of the Whole Body'

A full integrated practice including sound, breath and movement. This intensive retreat is suitable for more experienced practitioners. Forming part of the current Aurolab teacher training programme this retreat is also open to those interested in deepening their practice. There will be time to enjoy the beautiful coastal setting.
